Auditions for solo parts will comprise the first part of our rehearsal, from 7:30 pm on Wednesday 11 September at Vineyard Life Church, and they will be held openly with other auditioners and chorus present. In order to build quality and continuity, it is our priority to offer solos to those who have sung with us before, providing they meet the appropriate standards. Those allocated solo parts are expected to attend choral (as well as soloist) rehearsals, and to sing with the choruses too.
For audition, you should sing:
- a Baroque song in English (omitting repeats!)
or - a Baroque song in another language plus a song in English to demonstrate diction
You may express a preference for which aria(s) you’d like to be considered for (or not be considered), but the panel reserves the right to offer you a different part (or none) according to their judgement.
A list of the solo numbers can be downloaded here in case you want to rehearse one or make a preference from them.
The audition panel will consist of Lindsay Bramley (Music Director) and Mary Stallebrass representing the committee, with Michael Keen accompanying.
The panel will try to please as many performers as possible while respecting the needs of the music and of the group; however please note that their decision is not negotiable.
Initial offers of solos will be made within a week of the auditions and will be sent from the group’s official email info@richmondopera.org.uk; any queries should be directed to that same email address. Please do not contact panel members directly, or expect them to provide feedback if you are disappointed, that is not their role.
If your piece is not from either of the works to be performed, please send a clear pdf of the vocal score in advance for the accompanist’s reference.
Thank you for your interest and we hope to see you soon.
